Certified for Every
Hazardous Area Standard
Spectrum explosion-proof cameras are independently tested and certified by accredited bodies for use in classified hazardous locations. Our certifications cover North American, European, and international standards — allowing the same camera platform to be specified on projects worldwide.
Certification Is Not
Optional
In any area classified as hazardous under NEC, IECEx, ATEX, or equivalent national standards, only equipment that has been independently tested and certified for the applicable classification may be legally installed and operated. This applies to all electrical equipment — including cameras and surveillance systems.
Using uncertified equipment in a classified area is not only a regulatory violation — it creates a direct risk of ignition. Explosion-proof certification confirms that a camera's enclosure has been independently tested to contain any internal ignition source and prevent it from propagating to the surrounding atmosphere.
For project engineers and procurement teams, certification documentation is a submittal requirement at most industrial facilities. Spectrum provides full certification packages for all applicable standards upon request.
Safety Assurance
Independent testing confirms the camera cannot ignite surrounding explosive atmospheres under normal operation or defined fault conditions.
Regulatory Compliance
Certified equipment satisfies OSHA, NFPA 70, ATEX Directive, and IEC 60079 requirements — essential for facility audits, insurance, and permit compliance.
Global Project Specification
Multiple certifications allow the same Spectrum camera to be specified on projects across North America, Europe, and international markets without requiring different equipment.
Six Standards.
50+ Countries Covered.
Each certification is issued by an independent accredited body after physical testing of the equipment. Available certifications vary by product — see the matrix below for specifics by model.
FM Approvals
United States · Canada
FM Approvals certification covers both the US (cFMus) and Canadian (FM Canada) markets under the NEC/CEC Class/Division classification system. Required for facilities operating under NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) for Class I Division 1 & 2 locations where flammable gases or vapors may be present.

ATEX Directive
European Union
ATEX (Atmosphères Explosibles) is the European Union directive governing equipment for use in explosive atmospheres. Certification is issued by a Notified Body following testing to IEC 60079 standards. Required for all electrical equipment installed in Zone 1 & 2 classified areas within the EU.
Directive 2014/34/EU · Zone 1 & 2
IECEx Scheme
50+ Countries Worldwide
The IEC System for Certification to Standards Relating to Equipment for Use in Explosive Atmospheres (IECEx) is the international standard accepted in over 50 countries as the global benchmark for explosion-protected equipment. Particularly important for projects in the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and Africa.

INMETRO
Brazil
INMETRO (Instituto Nacional de Metrologia, Qualidade e Tecnologia) certification is required for explosion-proof electrical equipment used in classified hazardous areas in Brazil. Based on ABNT NBR IEC 60079 standards and mandatory for Brazil's large oil & gas, petrochemical, and mining sectors.

UKCA Marking
United Kingdom
The UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) marking replaced CE/ATEX marking for equipment placed on the market in Great Britain following the UK's departure from the European Union. Required for equipment installed in Zone 1 & 2 classified areas in the UK, including North Sea offshore operations.
UK SI 2016/1107 · Zone 1 & 2
PESO Approval
India
The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) regulates the use of explosion-proof electrical equipment in India's classified hazardous locations. PESO approval is required for equipment used in oil & gas, petrochemical, and mining facilities across India's rapidly growing industrial sector.
